How XContent lowered one customer's cloud spend by 50%.

XContent is a Microsoft CSP that wraps managed Azure inside a product called CloudSource. Customers buy an outcome — "our cloud, fully managed" — and XContent handles the operations behind the curtain.

In 2024, XContent looked for a FinOps tool they could white-label inside CloudSource. Multi-cloud platforms were overkill (and required customer data to leave the customer's tenant). Azure Cost Management was too basic. CloudMonitor fit cleanly.

The challenge

XContent had a flagship CloudSource customer whose Azure bill was growing at 8% MoM. Engineering recommendations were ad-hoc, the customer didn't trust the bill, and CloudSource as a product was at risk of churn.

The CloudMonitor deployment

XContent connected CloudMonitor to the customer's billing scope under scoped read-only access, rebranded the reports in the XContent theme, and presented them at the next quarterly business review.

The conversation changed immediately. Instead of arguing about whether the bill was right, XContent could walk the customer through 38 recommendations totalling $184k of annual saving — prioritized, with effort estimates and risk ratings.

Outcomes

Within six months, the customer's Azure spend was down 50% and the churn risk had inverted into a strong renewal. XContent has since rolled CloudMonitor across 40+ CloudSource customers as the default FinOps layer.
